Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 April 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is collected and used when you use Softrope (the "App") or visit this website. Softrope is operated as an independent software product sold directly to individuals.
If you have any questions, contact us at: privacy@softrope.app
1. Data we collect
| Data | Why we collect it | Legal basis (UK GDPR) | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address | Delivering your licence key, sending important account notices | Performance of a contract | Duration of your licence + 2 years |
| IP address | Fraud prevention and abuse detection during licence activation | Legitimate interests | 90 days |
| Activation events | Audit log: which licence key was activated, on what app version, with what result | Legitimate interests | 90 days |
| Anonymous usage events (telemetry) | Understanding which features are used so we can improve the App | Consent (opt-in only) | 12 months |
| Crash reports | Diagnosing software bugs; reports contain stack traces and app version but no personal data | Legitimate interests | 6 months |
We do not collect names, postal addresses, payment card details, or any special-category data. Payment is handled by a third-party processor (currently Stripe); we receive only confirmation that payment succeeded and the email address you used at checkout.
2. Telemetry (optional)
Telemetry is off by default. On first launch, the App asks whether you would like to send anonymous usage statistics. If you agree, events such as "scene started" or "library loaded" are sent alongside a randomly-generated client ID — never your email address or any other identifier. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy.
3. Sharing with third parties
We share data only where necessary to operate the service:
- Stripe — payment processor. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/gb/privacy.
- Hosting provider — the activation API and website are hosted on a server in the European Economic Area (EEA). We use appropriate contracts to protect any personal data transferred.
We do not sell or rent personal data to any third party.
4. Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent — turn off telemetry in Settings at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@softrope.app. We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
5. Cookies and local storage
This website uses localStorage to remember your colour-scheme preference
(light/dark). No tracking cookies are set and no third-party analytics scripts are loaded.
6. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where required by law, notify you by email.
7. Governing law
This policy is governed by the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
