Softrope is an RPG sound mixer. Simply manage and play organic soundscapes, spot effects and background music right at your table.
Use Softrope's built-in scenes, or roll your own. Bring any audio or music you like. Every sound, gap and volume level is yours to tweak.
Prep between sessions. At the table, just play.
Create a library for your campaign and divide it into sections that match how you run: Combat, Exploration, Town, Weather, whatever fits. Each section fills up with scene buttons you can hit in an instant.
Each scene is a mix you build yourself. Layer ambient loops, spot effects and background music. Dial in volumes, set gaps between sounds, add variation with weighted samples. It's as deep as you want it to be.
When the session starts, Softrope steps out of the way. One window, full of your scenes. Click one and it plays. Click another and it crossfades or layers. That's it.
Everything a DM needs, nothing they don't.
Pay once and it's yours. No subscription, no library locked behind a monthly fee.
Audio loops without clicks or gaps. Your players will never notice a seam.
Random gaps, pre-delays and weighted samples keep every loop feeling alive. Nothing sounds like it's on a timer.
Keep a separate library per campaign. Switch between Waterdeep and Sharn in seconds.
Divide your library into sections. Switching scenes can stop others in the same section, crossfade them, or let them layer.
Add your own art to every scene. Your soundboard looks as good as it sounds.
Drag scenes between sections, effects between scenes, samples between effects. Rearrange anything.
Dial in volumes, loop counts, gap timing and sample weights. Every detail, every effect.
Isolate or silence individual effects mid-session without stopping the scene.
See what's playing at a glance. Visual feedback for every effect, live at the table.
Native desktop app. Fast, offline, no browser tab stealing audio focus.
Export your libraries to share with other DMs or keep as a backup. One file, everything included. Softrope V1 files can be imported too.
I've been running tabletop campaigns for four decades. I'm a musician, sound engineer and storyteller, and Softrope is a natural expression of all of those things. I built it because nothing else did quite what I wanted.
That was twenty years ago. There are now lots of excellent choices out there — none of them quite give me what I want — so I've remade it.
The name? That'll be my good friend Keith's doing. The party needed rope. Keith announced he had some "soft" rope.
"Soft rope? What the hell is that? Are you sure you're not misreading soft boots?"
"Nope, it says here — rope, brackets soft," he said, handing me his character sheet with a smirk.
I looked at his sheet. It said: Rope (50ft).
"You twat," I retorted.
The name stuck.
